Film negatives are the ultimate archival storage medium for photographic images. The best way to archive valuable irreplaceable images is to retire valuable original negatives, glass plates, or photographic prints after creating new photographic film. While new technologies render digital storage media obsolete, 19th century films (even glass plate negatives) remain easily reproducible. Together with the sharpness and clarity of the Eversmart Supreme scanner and the expertise of our custom B&W photography lab, the LVT film recorder is an essential piece of our exact, archival, high-end digital services.
The Durst/Dice Rhino+ LVT (Light Valve Technology) film recorder is capable of writing to 4x5 and 8x10 film at an astounding 2032 ppi -extremely high quality for archival digital output, processed on fine grain film with our 35+ years of film developing experience. These very high-resolution negatives make beautiful silver-gelatin prints from digital files. Both the LVT and our Hostert dip and dunk film processor are calibrated daily to exactly predictable tolerances. Film is processed to museum archival standards.
